The best test for early detection of the Uterine Cancer is physical examination by a gynaecologist or Colposcopy, or imaging tests like Ultrasound, CT Scan. Hysteroscopy is an advanced test which allows the gynaecologist to see the inside of the uterus. If uterine cancer is established then further tests are done to find the stage of the cancer. The best test for this is Whole Body PET Scan whch finds tumour cells in any other part of the body.
Surgery - Treatment for endometrial cancer usually involves an operation to remove the uterus (hysterectomy), as well as to remove the fallopian tubes and ovaries (salpingo-oophorectomy). A hysterectomy makes it impossible for you to become pregnant in the future. Once the ovaries are removed you would experience menopause if you have not already reached that stage before the surgery.
Radiation and Chemotherapy are sometimes used in conjunction with the surgery or even separately.
The cost of Uterine Cancer Treatment in India through surgery ranges from USD 4000 - 6000 at the best of the hospitals. The first step is to correctly diagnose the stage of uterine cancer. The cost of investigations would be approximately USD 800-1200. Once we know the stage of the cancer then the treatment is planned. If surgery is chosen as the first line of treatment then it is mostly radical hystrectomy in which case the hospital stay would be 5-6 days while the stay is lesser when the surgery is done for lesser tissue removal. The patient has to stay in India for 2-3 weeks for this kind of surgery.
Dr Vinay Gaikwad and Dr Anjali Kumar are two of the best cancer surgeons in India who do the maximum number of uterine cancer surgeries.
Apart from the treatment the other costs like travelling, hotels and food are all cheaper in India. The boarding and lodging cost for the patient and one attendant in a decent airconditioned guest house would be around USD 40-60 per day.
