Targetted Therapy in India
Targeted therapy or molecularly targeted therapy is a type of medication that blocks the growth of cancer cells by interfering with specific targeted molecules needed for carcinogenesis and tumor growth rather than by simply interfering with all rapidly dividing cells. Radiotherapy is not considered a 'targeted therapy' despite its often being aimed at the tumors
How Targetted Therapy Works
Targeted Therapy basically includes drugs that mimic substances that occur naturally in the body to destroy cancer cells. They work by changing the way that cells interact with or signal to each other.
Targeted cancer therapies are expected to be more effective than current treatments and less harmful to normal cells. Biological or targeted therapies can be used to stimulate the immune system, control the growth of cancer cells or to overcome side effects of treatment.
