Bone Scan In India

A bone scan is a nuclear imaging test that helps diagnose and track several types of bone disease. Your doctor may order a bone scan if you have unexplained skeletal pain suggesting bone loss, bone infection or a bone injury undetectable on a standard X-ray.
A bone scan is also an important tool for detecting cancer that has spread (metastasized) to the bone from a tumor that started in a different organ, such as the breast or prostate. Similarly, a bone scan can detect some abnormalities related to leukemia and lymphoma.

Reasons for Bone Scan

Procedure for Bone Scan in India

The bone scan test has 2 stages:
1.The radiopharmaceutical is given by injection
2. The person returns later for scans.
The bone Scan Procedure includes the following steps:

To get better images, the person may be asked to:

After the scan, the radioactive material quickly loses its radioactivity. It passes out of the body through the urine or stool (feces). Depending on the type of radiopharmaceutical used, it may take a few hours or days to completely pass out of the body.

Side Effects of Bone Scan

The dose of x-rays or radioactive materials used in nuclear medicine imaging can vary widely. Dose depends on the type of procedure and body part being examined. In general, the dose of radiopharmaceutical given is small and people are exposed to low levels of radiation during the test.

Some potential side effects that might occur include :
